Diverse Inshore Action: Kayak, Surf, and Pier Fishing Fun!

Action-packed day from the get-go! Summer fishing in Oak Island, NC brought us some great action on the water. I headed out with Brent for a 4-hour inshore trip, launching early in the morning under partly cloudy skies. The threat of rain didn't dampen our spirits as we set out from Fish Factory Road Southeast. Carolina Fly Guy was ready to show Brent some of the best spots Oak Island has to offer. With our gear rigged and ready, we hit a variety of fishing spots, mixing up our techniques to maximize our chances. We started with some surf fishing, then moved on to try our luck from the pier. As the morning progressed, we even hopped in the kayak to access some prime inshore areas. Our efforts paid off with a nice mix of species. Brent landed a 12-inch Spotted Weakfish, which put up a good fight. We also managed to boat an 11-inch Summer Flounder and a scrappy 9-inch Redfish. While not trophy-sized, each catch added to the excitement of the day. The variety of fish really showcased what Oak Island's inshore waters have to offer. Oak Island's diverse fishing grounds never disappoint, whether you're casting from the surf, dropping a line off the pier, or paddling in a kayak. The mix of techniques we used today is typical of how we approach these waters to find the bite. We wrapped up the trip with smiles all around, despite the rain that eventually moved in. It's days like this that remind me why I love guiding in these waters. If you're thinking about coming out to Oak Island for some fishing, I'd love to show you around. Our 4-Hour Inshore & Nearshore Fishing Trips are perfect for anglers looking to experience the best of what our local waters have to offer. Latest Inshore Fishing Action in Oak Island, NC: Your Weekly Update fishing report coverpicture

May 6, 2025

Oak Island - Brunswick, NC Inshore Report on 6th May, 2025

The inshore fishing around Oak Island, NC has been productive this week, with several species showing great activity in the local waters. Redfish and Speckled Trout remain the top targets for anglers, with both species being caught regularly in the shallows, especially around Masonboro Island and the Lockwood Folly River. Redfish have been responding well to live shrimp and soft plastics, particularly in the early morning and late evening hours. Anglers are seeing better action near oyster beds and grass flats where the reds are feeding. Flounder fishing is also on the upswing, with some nice keeper-sized fish being caught around the jetties and in the deeper channels. Live minnows and Gulp! baits are proving successful for bottom fishing. For those targeting Spanish Mackerel, the bite has picked up near the mouth of the Cape Fear River, where anglers are seeing increased action trolling small spoons and jigs. Sheepshead have also been frequenting the bridge pilings, with anglers using fiddler crabs to lure these hard-fighting fish. The waters have been slightly warmer this week, and the tides are favorable for inshore fishing along the Oak Island coastline. Weather conditions have been stable, allowing for smooth and enjoyable trips. As we move further into the spring, expect more species to start making their appearance, including Black Drum and Bluefish, adding variety to your fishing experience. As always, make sure to check the tides and water temperatures before heading out for the best chances of a successful catch. For the most up-to-date inshore fishing information, be sure to stay tuned for next week’s Oak Island fishing report!
